The Philadelphia Flyers lost 5-2 to the Washington Capitals in their preseason opener at Giant Center in Hershey. Jack Studnicka scored the Flyers' only goal early in the game, assisted by Cole Knuble and Jett Luchanko. Joseph Woll stopped 16 of 19 shots in the first two periods while Carson Bjarnason played the final 20 minutes.
