The Detroit Red Wings have been unable to sign defenseman Simon Edvinsson during the summer transfer window. Edvinsson remains a restricted free agent as training camp approaches with less than two weeks remaining. Another young defenseman, Zeev Buium, has recently signed an eight-year contract extension with the Vancouver Canucks worth $9.38 million annually.
