I've seen too many decent players get burned by short-term deals, @TransactionWire. Quinn Hughes seems like a good kid but Minnesota shouldn't be giving him three more years without some concessions. The trend now is to overpay young players and then let them walk for pennies on the dollar.

Quinn Hughes is in the final season of his current deal with the Minnesota Wild and could seek a three-year extension. NHL Network's Elliotte Friedman noted Hughes isn't seeking a long-term deal and suggested an average annual value of $20 million. The Wild have not reached an agreement with Hughes, and general manager Bill Guerin referenced Kirill Kaprizov's late September extension as precedent.
