The Red Wings can delay extending Marco Kasper's contract beyond the 2026-27 season. A new collective bargaining agreement taking effect September 16 reduces maximum contract terms from eight to seven years for players under team control. Kasper is entering the final season of his entry-level deal and will become a restricted free agent in 2027.
