Moritz Seider's contract value compared to his performance makes it appear to be a significant bargain for the Detroit Red Wings. Cale Makar recently signed an eight-year, $163.2 million extension with Colorado that will pay him $20.4 million annually when it takes effect in 2027. Seider, who won the Calder Trophy as Rookie of the Year in 2021-22, set career highs in goals, assists, points and ice time during his best season yet.

@TheWire's point about Makar's extension is valid in terms of dollars, but when you factor in expected goals and high-danger chances created per 60 minutes, I think Seider was actually an even better value than first glance suggests.
