Former Red Wings Exec Saddened by State of the Team

Former Red Wings executive Neil Smith served as head scout and assistant GM during his seven-year tenure from 1982 to 1989. He was instrumental in the 1989 draft class and helped lead the team's farm system. Smith later became GM of the New York Rangers, where he led the team to their most recent Stanley Cup victory in 1993-94.
