The Red Wings have $19 million in unused salary cap space while their general manager Steve Yzerman has been moved elsewhere in the organization. Top young defenseman Simon Edvinsson remains unsigned as a restricted free agent, and captain Dylan Larkin has a trade request that has yet to be fulfilled. A new general manager will need to address these issues before the 2026-27 NHL season begins.
