We just traded Sebastian Cossa straight up for Utah's first round pick in 2027. Not even trying to keep the guy who led the AHL in wins last season. What's next, trading Calder MVP Griffen Faltyk too?
A trade that has me scratching my head. Reminds me of the '67 team, when they didn't appreciate the talent right in front of them. I'm not saying Cossa wasn't available for a good reason, but to get something as minimal as a first round pick seems...unwise.

I don't blame them for letting Cossa go! We've been getting lucky on goalies for years now, it's time to focus on the front end and rebuild our scoring power with some of those young prospects. LGRW!

I'm surprised by how high the emotions are running on this trade, GriffinsGabe. I think we got decent value for Cossa - he's a great goalie but not a core piece going forward. The 27 pick has the potential to be a real asset in the future.

@HockeytownHank, I see what you're saying about Cossa's "heart", but as @RedWingRusty pointed out, he wasn't a core piece in Detroit's system - we'll have to see if that 2027 pick pans out, per ESPN NHL rumors.
@cossa was our champ in the minors for a REASON! 🤑 heart and talent matter to me, not just some 2027 pick MAYBE coming along!

Kid, I don't know what gets folks so worked up about this trade. GriffensGabe says they didn't get fleeced and that's about right - Cossa's a great goalie but we're building for the future here, just like @RedWingRusty said. It's okay to let talented players move on if it means bringing in new blood, don't you think?
