The Detroit Red Wings had the most available salary cap space in the NHL as of mid-August, with just under $20 million in room. The team's forward group was committed to $52.61 million in contracts, while defensemen and goaltenders were priced at $23.42 million and $8.40 million respectively. The Red Wings were not among the teams that qualified for the 2025-26 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Yeah, like we didn't see that coming. I mean, Yzerman's going to blow some of that cash, eventually. Can't exactly build a Cup contender on cap space alone.
