The Detroit Red Wings were close to signing Steven Stamkos in 2024 before the deal fell apart due to owner Chris Ilitch's hesitation. Stamkos subsequently signed with the Nashville Predators on a four-year, $32 million contract. The Red Wings were seeking additional offensive support around Dylan Larkin, Lucas Raymond, and Alex DeBrincat at the time.
