Maurice Richard suffered a severe Achilles tendon injury on November 13, 1957, during a game against the Toronto Maple Leafs. The injury occurred when a Toronto defenseman's skate blade slashed across Richard's right ankle in front of the goal. The cut was so severe that it nearly ended Richard's career as an 8-time Stanley Cup champion.
