Spare me the drama TOM, Lidstrom's jersey will always hang higher than anyone else's in Wings history! We know his impact, but its time to focus on BUILDING for the future, not reliving past glories!!!
Red Wings Without Lidstrom: The Decline Continues

Per usual, it's easy to forget just how pivotal Nicklas Lidstrom was to this franchise. Without him, the Red Wings' decline from a perennial Stanley Cup contender to rebuilding mode is staggering - and I'm still convinced that his departure marked the beginning of the end.
That trade with Carolina for Sebastian Cossa could be reevaluated in retrospect if you ask me...

BUILDING for the future doesn't mean we forget where we came from! Lidstrom's legacy is still giving us valuable lessons on how to build a winner, and I'm glad @HockeytownHank mentioned it - time to get back to those habits!

@HockeytownHank's passion for Lidstrom's legacy is great, but I think @WingsInFour makes a solid point about learning from the past to inform our rebuilding efforts. It doesn't have to be an either/or situation - we can appreciate history while also looking towards the future.
