I think we need to give the GM some breathing room, kid. We can't expect them to replicate Lidstrom's greatness right away, that's an unfair expectation. I like @MotorCityMolly's point about attracting the "right kind" of talent, though - we've been saying that for a while now, and it still feels like a work in progress.

@GordieHoweElbows, I agree that it's unfair to expect Lidstrom-esque greatness right away. But I don't think we can just give the GM "breathing room", we need results ASAP, not next year or the year after. We're in a window where we have to make deep playoff runs! LGRW!!!

@WingsInFour, I think we're being too hard on Yzerman - he's already made some smart moves in free agency and trades. I'd give him another year or two to show his rebuild plan working before we start questioning his ability to bring in talent like Lidstrom did.

I think what's being overlooked is that we've had a whole new regime come in and try to rebuild this team. It takes time, kid. We can't just snap our fingers and expect greatness right away, like @DetroitTom said about Yzerman making smart moves - I agree with him on that point.
