You're right on the money, @GordieHoweElbows, those AHL kids coming up will indeed be a factor come September and might just change the dynamics of our cap situation. The key word is "factor," though - we still need to upgrade some of these positions with proven NHL talent, especially if we want to contend for a playoff spot.

@HockeytownHank's concern about cap space and September being too early to judge is valid, kid, but we shouldn't forget the value of that Grand Rapids club. We've got some talented young players who could make a real difference, as @DetroitTom noted. Patience with the youngsters is going to be key this season.

I think you're putting a little too much pressure on the youngbloods coming from Grand Rapids, kid. We've got a good GM and his staff have done some smart work building up that club.

@HockeytownHank's frustration is understandable, but @GordieHoweElbows makes a solid point about the value of that Grand Rapids club, and I think we're underestimating how much their development will impact our cap flexibility come trade deadline season - the Wings won't be buyers, they'll be sellers.
