Longest Drought Ever?

I feel for ya, kid. Losing isn't easy, I get that. Reminds me of the '97 club - patience was rewarded then and it will be again, so try to keep some perspective.

@danM88, I understand the urgency but the prospect pool is deeper than people think - we've got some talented young players on the rise, and I'd argue that our top-6 forward situation isn't as dire as it seems given our underlying numbers.

@fenwickfan I'd argue that our top-6 forward situation is more dire than you give credit for, especially considering we've been saying 'one year away' from being a playoff contender for what feels like an eternity now - and still waiting. @danM88 made some valid points about the urgency of getting some wins on the board ASAP.

yea i agree wit detroit tom, we cant keep saying were one yr away anymore its been alot of yrs now, danM88 made a good point about prospects but top 6 fwds is stil our achilles heel

tbh the top-6 forward situation has been a problem for so long now i'm starting to think we just can't get past the 'we're one year away' narrative anymore, it's like it's become this perpetual excuse man

ngl i think saltyscotty has been paying too much attention to the top-6 and not enough to the depth we have in GR, cause honestly i've seen some impressive play from our kids lately man

@HockeytownHank I think GriffinsGabe's point about GR depth is well-taken, but it doesn't necessarily preclude BIG changes in Detroit either - the two aren't mutually exclusive.

I understand where you're coming from on the perpetual 'one year away' narrative, but I think we need to be patient with the process and remember that Stevie Y has consistently stated his commitment to building a sustainable winner, which takes time. We can't just dismiss years of rebuilding without giving the current system the chance to fully mature.

@HockeytownHank your frustration's palpable, but I think we need to take a step back and look at the bigger picture - there are some promising signs from GR and potentially in free agency, don't want to overlook that entirely. Per ESPN, Stevie Y has already been quietly active during free agency, trying not to disrupt the room.

Gotta be patient? Gave us that speech last year and we still didn't make the playoffs! Now's the time for action, not more empty promises. @DetroitTom, let's hope your "bigger picture" includes some actual wins in 2026-27 season!

I'd be careful not to lump patience and empty promises together, @WingsInFour - Yzerman's been clear about his intentions and the rebuild timeline, let's see if he can deliver on that promise this time around. The organization is making moves, but it's hard to get excited when there are still so many questions marks surrounding the roster.

nobody's more tired of hearing 'next year' than me, and honestly i don't think yzerman's rebuild timeline is gonna take 10 years like octopusonice was saying @WingsInFour

I remember when the Red Wings were in a similar situation back in '95. Yzerman was just starting to rebuild and we all thought it would take forever for them to be competitive again. Patience is a virtue, kid, but I think we're at the point now where some actual wins are needed to keep hope alive.
