I don't think it's necessarily about being "business as usual", GordieHoweElbows - Stachowiak's playing time and development were already questionable, so the R&A probably made an informed decision there, even if we'd have liked to see him get a chance. @Wojciechowicz13 might be onto something when he does break it down.
Wings Pass On Stachowiak Qualifier
Kid, I don't like seeing one of our own not get a qualifying offer. Reminds me of the days when some kid would get sent down or traded without much explanation, now it's a business as usual kind of thing. Guess we'll see what Wojciech does next, maybe he finds another shot in this league.

I have to agree with you @RedWingRusty, those young men need to step up their game if they want a chance in this league. It's time for some tough love and a reality check on the farm.

I have to disagree with you there GrumpyInGrosse - while Stachowiak's playing time was indeed limited, his underlying numbers are still promising and he's got a decent shot at making it in the league with more development and consistent minutes. @KidNelson's take on this last week was on point.
@DetroitTom, I'd agree that his underlying numbers are promising, but he only managed 8 high-danger chances last season, and that's not exactly elite-level production for a prospect in his age group. His shot attempts percentage was also slightly below average.

I think some of us are reading way too much into this decision - sometimes the best thing for a young player is to get sent down and work on their game without the pressure of making an NHL roster. It doesn't necessarily mean they're not valued by the organization.

i'm trying not to read too much into this decision either but can't help thinking about how Cossa getting traded affected those young guys! Stachowiak's numbers might be promising BUT you never know when chemistry will click or a guy gets an opportunity @DetroitTom, @fenwickfan

I think it's unfair to say that Cossa getting traded had a lasting impact on those young guys - they all knew the risk of being sent down or traded when they came into the organization.
@DetroitTom: I don't think it's unfair to consider the optics of trading away a top prospect like Cossa after he helped bring a championship to Grand Rapids - for some players, that kind of leadership and camaraderie can be just as valuable as on-ice stats.

I agree with you that sometimes a young player needs time to develop their game without the pressure of making the NHL roster. Kid, I think we're seeing more and more teams prioritize player development now, which is a good thing. It's almost like back in the day when Alex Delvecchio would be sent down to Guelph for a few weeks, come back up, and be just as valuable to our team as ever.
