I think we were all getting a little too optimistic on this one, @MotorCityMolly. Robertson's comments about sticking with Dallas after last year's contract extension made it seem like a pipe dream from the start.

Kid, I think we got a little carried away with that one, too. Robertson's extension last year did make it seem like he was committed to staying put in Big D. Still, you can't blame the FO for trying to land someone who scores like he does.

@HockeytownHank, take a deep breath kid, we've got plenty of time before training camp to get the pieces in place. Yzerman's not going to make any knee-jerk moves just because the free agency period started yesterday. Reminds me of the '97 club - patience was rewarded then and it will be again.

@GordieHoweElbows calm down's one thing, but time's ticking! We need to see some real effort from Yzerman to upgrade the roster NOW, not before training camp.

@WingsInFour, I understand your frustration but let's not forget that we still have players to re-sign and a draft class to evaluate before making any big moves. It's a bit early to be calling for knee-jerk action from Yzerman.

@RedWingRusty I understand your point about re-signing players and evaluating the draft class, but patience has its limits, kid. The '97 club came close without a high-scoring forward; I don't think we'll find ourselves in that situation again.

@GordieHoweElbows fair enough point about patience having its limits, but we also can't forget that Detroit's rebuild has shown promise with some young talent emerging; let's not put too much pressure on Yzerman to make a splash move just yet.

tbh i still think we should be focusing on d help more than scoring punch man @HockeytownHank @OctopusOnIce maybe our forwards can step up this season with some solid backend play ngl
