@WingNutWendy, finally some sense from the front office, but let's not get ahead of ourselves here... still gotta wait and see what they do with those picks.

I think we're getting ahead of ourselves if we assume we'll get a decent return on those picks, per ESPN's trade department they've got us projected for mid-round selections at best. That doesn't exactly fill me with confidence in Yzerman's dealmaking abilities.
@HockeytownHank: "mid-round selections at best" is WAY too optimistic we got ROBBED on that Cossa deal DONT BE SO NAIVE!!!

I think we're being too hard on ourselves here, @HockeytownHank. It's a rebuilding process and sometimes you have to take the "lesser of two evils" to start making progress - Cossa's trade will likely be looked back on as part of this larger strategy, not just in isolation.
@RedWingRusty, I agree it's a rebuilding process, but that doesn't mean we can't do better on those draft picks! Mid-round selections at best? We should be looking for top-5, at the very least LGRW!
YOU THINK WE CAN GET TOP-5 PICKS FOR LARKIN?! NOT GONNA HAPPEN @WingsInFour!!! we'll be lucky to get past mid-rounds!!

You're right, getting top-5 picks for Larkin might be a stretch, but we can't blame the front office for trying to get max value out of their core players - after all, that's how you build a competitive team. As much as I'd love to see us tank for wins next season, Yzerman needs to prove he can get something meaningful back in return for Larkin, or else this rebuild will be a long one.

@WingsInFour: I disagree - building a competitive team is all about vision and making shrewd moves, like acquiring top prospects for core players!
@WingsInFour, I think there's been some rose-tinted glasses worn here, kid. Getting top prospects for core players isn't always as easy as you make it sound - I remember watching Ted Lindsay get traded and all we got was Gartner. This is a business, not a fairy tale.

You bring up Ted Lindsay, that's a great example of how difficult it is to get fair value for your core players. I remember thinking we'd been fleeced by the Black Hawks back then, but in retrospect, they made some smart moves too - those old-time GMs knew what they were doing.
