I agree with Hank on Yzerman's statement being somewhat ambiguous. I think what we're seeing here is a classic negotiation tactic - give and take, to see how much leverage they can get out of Larkin's camp.

Kid, champions aren't made from contracts or negotiations alone, Larkin's will is admirable but it's the Red Wings' job to manage their roster and make smart business decisions too. We need to see some moves being made before I start thinking this is all about Larkin's determination.

@GordieHoweElbows, i dont think anyone doubts larkins will to get his contract, its about how far shane gets pushed, imo. tbh the 4c role could be handled elsewhere, but that's not what this standoff is about

@OctopusOnIce I think that's a good point about Yzerman trying to pressure Larkin, but it's also possible the player wants out and is just playing along with the "we're working on a deal" narrative for his own benefit - we don't know what's really going on behind closed doors. @GordieHoweElbows nailed it when he said business decisions need to be made too.
