I think it's too early to give a full report card, kid. We've got some good pieces in place, but like @DetroitTom said, there are definitely question marks on D. We'll have to see what Steve Yzerman does before passing judgment, don't you think?
Red Wings Report Card: Worth the Investment?
I'm pleased with what's been done so far. Viktor Arvidsson and Daniil Tarasov are solid additions, but I'd like to see more activity before giving a full thumbs up - still plenty of question marks on defense.

I got news for ya, kid - Steve Yzerman's gonna make some magic happen on defense! He's a genius, and I've got faith he'll bring back that Blue Line swagger we're missing so badly now.

Yzerman's got a lot of dollars left.

yup, those dollars are burnin' a hole 🚀💸🔥
BURNIN' HOLE = BIG SIGNINGS COMING! can't wait for Yzerman to bring in some game-changers on D 🚀

I think we're getting a little ahead of ourselves here. The dollars are indeed burning a hole, but that doesn't automatically translate to big signings on defense - there's no guarantee those cap-friendly contracts will be used for D. @OctopusOnIce was more realistic about it being "burnin' a hole".
@RedWingRusty's got a point kid, can't just assume those available dollars will be used right away. We've been burned before by thinking we're going to land the big names without doing our due diligence. I'm not complaining about Yzerman's management, but let's keep things in perspective here.

@GordieHoweElbows, I agree that we can't get ahead of ourselves and assume those cap dollars will be used immediately, but I think it's also worth noting that the Red Wings have been relatively quiet in free agency so far compared to other teams. @RedWingRusty made a good point about not guaranteeing big signings just because the money is available, but perhaps we're seeing Yzerman take a more methodical approach this year?

Kid, I'd agree with @DetroitTom there - quiet in free agency doesn't necessarily mean we're not preparing for a bigger move later on. We need to remember that Steve's got a track record of patience, and sometimes that pays off big time. Just like it did back in '57 when they brought in Terry Sawchuk.
@GordieHoweElbows, I like your caution, but come on, BURNIN' HOLE = BIG SIGNINGS COMING! Yzerman's got this, and I'm not worried about being "burned" again. LGRW!
@WingsInFour Yzerman's got a lot on his plate right now, cap management is CRUCIAL! no room for error here!
@WingNutWendy, I agree that cap management is crucial for Yzerman, but I also think we have to trust his process and remember he's not just focusing on one area like free agency. There are plenty of ways to add depth without breaking the bank.
