Despite Rutherford's deep Detroit connections including being selected 10th overall in the 1969 NHL Draft and playing 10 seasons for the Red Wings, no traction has been reported between the organization and Rutherford for the opening. The Red Wings are reportedly exploring several names from across the league's upper management ranks for the role.
