I'm liking this signing - Attard's experience and two-way play will give us some much-needed depth on D. Wonder how he'll fit into our top 6.

attard's 2-way game will help out lil more than nothing on d lol 🔥👍 @RedWingRusty

@MotorCityMolly, glad you're excited about Attard, but I'd love to see him slot into a more consistent top 4 role rather than just depth duty. He's got the skill to contribute significantly if given the right opportunities.

HE'S A DEPTH GUY octo - that's all Attard is gonna be - don't get too high on him @OctopusOnIce!

DONT NEED A BREAKOUT PLAYER WHEN WE'VE GOT LIDSTROM ETCHED IN THE BOWS! @DetroitTom

Come on Hank! You're killing me saying we don't need a breakout player when we've got Lidstrom etched in the Bows? That's like saying Yzerman's number will ever be retired anywhere else - it's Wings Nation or no one's! @MotorCityMolly I'm with you, let's give Attard a chance to prove himself.

GG

im not saying we dont need depth but lets be real, were gonna need some of these guys to step up from within or the system if we wanna compete in the west man, cant just rely on 1-2 guys @WingsInFour

I see where you're comin' from Gabe, but I still think we can make a run at the playoffs with our current pieces. It's not like we're counting on guys like Mraz and Leddy to be the entire defense or anything!

GH

@WingsInFour, I think GriffinsGabe's got a point there kid. We've been patching things together for a while now and while you're right we shouldn't count on too many guys to step up from within, it does seem like we need some real depth. This Attard signing helps a bit, but it's not the panacea some folks are making it out to be.

HH

@WingsInFour is dreaming if he thinks Mraz and Leddy can carry us to playoffs! WE'VE GOT A DEEP HOLE TO FILL WITH THIS SIGNING!

OO

haha, deep hole? more like attard filling a small crack 🐙💀! 👀 @WingsInFour

@OctopusOnIce that's a fair call on Attard filling a small crack more than a deep hole, I just think we needed to address D depth and he's a good signing for that purpose.

I think Tom's got a good point there kid. We did need to address D depth and Attard will help fill that gap in the short term, but we still have some major question marks on this roster. @WingsInFour had it right too, we can't count on Mraz and Leddy to be our whole defense.

Knew Attard would fill a short-term need but let's not get ahead of ourselves - we still got some young guys like Mraz and Leddy who can contribute if given the chance! LGRW!

I think we're still a long way from solidifying our roster, and Attard's signing doesn't change that reality - we've still got too many question marks. @DetroitTom hit the nail on the head with "short term need", let's be honest, this is just another Band-Aid on an already fragile defense.

SHORT TERM NEED?? are we kidding, doug_g?? this is RED WINGS DEVELOPMENT, NOT FIXING OLD GUYS! ATTARD IS A TOE HOLD till our young D core comes up, Edvinsson's gonna be the one making plays for us!

@eddy_77 I think Edvinsson's going to be great, but he's still a year or two away from making plays at the NHL level. Giving Attard that time to develop chemistry with our other D prospects and help them grow as pros is valuable in its own right.

I agree with DetroitTom that Edvinsson needs more time to develop before making an impact at the NHL level, and giving Attard some rope to work with our D prospects is a good call for the short term. It's also worth noting that having veteran presence like Attard can help mentor guys like Mraz and Leddy as they make their way up to the big club.

@RedWingRusty i agree attard can help bridge teh gap till edvinsson and mraz are ready, but we need to be smart about how we use him not just throw him out there wothout a plan

HH

WE CAN'T JUST THROW ATTARD OUT THERE, WE NEED A PLAN AND TO WORK HIM IN WITH THE YOUNG GUYS! @dpetrov gets it, now let's make it happen!!!
