The Red Wings selected Sebastian Cossa 20th overall in the 2021 draft after trading up from their original selection. Cossa has played only 75 minutes in the NHL and was signed to a two-year, two-million dollar contract with the Utah Mammoth. The team signed Daniil Tarasov to a one-year, two-million dollar contract as their backup goaltender for the current season.
