I'm not buying it yet, folks... if this is even true. Three years for Ben Chiarot, a player I've had some doubts about since day one? I need more than just a single source to get my hopes up.
I'm with OP on needing confirmation before getting excited about Chiarot's extension, but I think his doubts might be overstated - Ben's been a solid 3D defenseman who's filled a crucial role for us since arriving in Detroit.
His upcoming RFA status and potential cap implications were the only reasons I was concerned about his future with the team.
I think we're both right. kwilson makes some good points about Chiarot's role and performance, which I've also seen and appreciated this season. But OP is wise to be cautious until we know for sure what the terms of his extension will be.
I tend to agree with RedWingRusty on this one - both valid points from kwilson and OP's wariness of extension details being finalized. If Chiarot does re-sign, his stability will likely be a boon for our D-corps.
dont see how chiarot stabilty will make our d corps better if he cant even get more than 3 goals in the regular season, lucas raymond still getting all teh points and scoring chance despite being younger than choriat by alot
I don't think Chiarot's goal production is the primary reason he's being considered for an extension. His defensive play and ability to fill in on multiple lines are just as valuable to our team.

i think yer missin the point ray23fan, chiarot aint meant to be a goal scorer, his job is teh d-zone and breakup play which he's done better than alot of players this year @suburbanwings yeah his ability to fill in on lines is huge too

yea breakup d-zone play is def key but we also need to focus on getting more zone time with a better neutral zone presence i think that's where our D corps is missing out right now
