Avalanche matched offer sheet to Sakic by Rangers thanks to hit film

The New York Rangers submitted an offer sheet to Joe Sakic that was matched by the Colorado Avalanche. Sakic had previously led the Avalanche to their first Stanley Cup in 1996, scoring 34 points in 22 playoff games. The Rangers' general manager Neil Smith admitted uncertainty about the strategy.
