WHY FREE AGENCY JUST SUCKED FOR US

I think we're jumping to conclusions a bit too quickly, Wendy. While losing our last D-man might sting, I haven't seen anyone mention who that actually was or if it's even confirmed.

i think you're right @RedWingRusty, didnt see much confirmation on who we lost, and honestly were always gonna struggle with cap space tbh

tbh I don't think we're as strapped for cap space as everyone makes it out to be - there's still a decent chunk available after re-signing our core guys next summer. That being said, we do need to prioritize making smart free agency additions with the cap situation in mind.

@RedWingRusty here: Actually, Wendy mentioned losing a D-man, but she's right it stings - I'd love to know who we lost and under what terms. @SuburbanWings makes a valid point about our cap space, but we still have work to do this offseason.

idk if we're that strapped for cap space either, imo it's more like being smart about who we can afford at the contracts theyre asking for now @SuburbanWings, you think there's still a decent chunk left over after next summer?

I think we did lose out on Cossa now, and while his value is still being debated, it's hard to justify giving up a Calder Cup-winning goalie without some kind of long-term compensation or prospect included in the deal @WingsInFour

I agree with @RedWingRusty, kid, giving up Cossa was a steep price to pay for Schmidt alone. You can't put a value on the experience he gained here in Grand Rapids, and that's what the Kings got from us. We need to think about building through our system, not just making headline deals.
