The Daily: Former Detroit Goaltender Announces Retirement; Red Wings will need Reliable Backup
A 34-year-old former Dallas Stars draft pick who signed with the Red Wings two years ago announced his retirement and plans to transition into coaching; he never appeared in a game for Detroit but played 14 regular season games for their AHL affiliate Grand Rapids and two playoff games. The Red Wings' goaltending depth features John Gibson, newly signed Daniil Tarasov, second-year netminder Michal Postava, and prospect Trey Augustine making his professional debut with the Griffins this fall. Defenseman Marcus Crawford, 29, has rejoined the Grand Rapids organization after spending most of his professional career in the ECHL and playing internationally for Cardiff Devils in the British EIHL from 2022 to 2024.
