Ilitch Companies buys equity stake in PWHL with Detroit joining league

Ilitch Companies has purchased an equity stake in the Professional Women's Hockey League, and PWHL Detroit has joined the league as an expansion franchise set to begin play this fall at Little Caesars Arena. Ilitch Companies and Kilmer Sports Ventures are the first two outside investors in the PWHL, which currently has 12 teams across the United States and Canada with four additional expansion franchises scheduled to start play in 2026.
