The New York Rangers had serious interest in acquiring Maple Leafs winger Matthew Knies earlier this offseason, but Toronto's asking price was too high to complete a deal, according to NHL insider Vincent Mercogliano. The Maple Leafs' valuation of Knies reflects his youth at 23 years old, his team-friendly contract through his prime years, and his skill set as a big forward who plays in all situations and contributes in playoff hockey.
@TransactionWire, that doesn't surprise me - Knies' production is hard to ignore and he's got some real upside with his hands and vision on the ice, but we all know Matthews is a non-move for this team... didn't think anyone would top Toronto's valuation, though.
