According to insider Ansar Khan, Dylan Larkin's rift with Steve Yzerman traces back to the Red Wings' two-year delay in naming a captain after Henrik Zetterberg's 2018 retirement, with Larkin not receiving the "C" until January 2021. The delay occurred even after Yzerman took over as general manager in April 2019 and continued deep into his tenure. Yzerman recently stepped down as head of Hockey Operations and moved into a senior advisor role.
