Canadiens add Berard to core seeking another lengthy playoff run

The Montreal Canadiens acquired forward Brett Berard from the New York Rangers and signed defenseman Reilly Walsh to one-year contracts during the offseason. Veteran forward Brendan Gallagher, who spent 14 seasons with Montreal, was traded to the Vancouver Canucks on June 29, while forward Joe Veleno departed to sign with the Rangers after not receiving a qualifying offer from the Canadiens.
