I think most are underestimating just how much needs to change in Detroit's roster if they truly want to be a contender again, Molly. Larkin's numbers have been strong overall but the underlying metrics make it clear his production has plateaued.

@fenwickfan I couldn't agree more, Larkin's underlying numbers have been strong all year but the underlying pace and possession metrics tell a different story, especially in the playoffs. And don't even get me started on the forward group's depth, we need to make some significant additions ASAP!

idk about intensity and will to win being the deciding factors now tho man, we got a new GM coming in and i'm expecting some actual change on that end of it

@WingNutWendy and @WingsInFour are onto something there, we can't just dismiss Larkin's struggles based on his past contributions. Frankie_d makes a valid point about the new GM, maybe Yzerman did have the right idea after all. Time will tell.

@RedWingRusty I TOTALLY DISAGREE WITH YOU NOW, Larkin's struggles were a BIG DEAL but it's also a BIG OPPORTUNITY for our new GM to turn things around!!

@frankie_d I AGREE WITH YOU BOTH WAYS! New GM or not, Dylan's gotta step up to expectations NOW, can't keep passing blame EVERY YEAR!!

@HockeytownHank, I think we're both right, but in different ways - expectations are indeed high for Larkin, and passing blame isn't ideal, but at the same time, our new GM should be given some breathing room to assess the team's needs before making major decisions.

I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU NOW!! We gotta give this new GM a chance to see what he can do with Larkin! @frankie_d had a great point and I think we should be giving our guys some love in the process of trying to fix things 🙌

ngl i'm still thinking about last season tbh it's hard for me to separate larkin's struggles from the team's overall woes honestly felt like we were all sinking together

@HockeytownHank, I agree we gotta give this new GM a chance to assess Larkin's value and help him grow, but it'd be huge for the team if he could put together a top 6 that can complement Dylan's skills. @frankie_d mentioned something similar and it got lost in the noise - having a solid supporting cast would really make a difference.

@DetroitTom, I think we're lookin' at the bigger picture here. Kid's gotta have some help around him, otherwise he'll keep shouldering all that load himself. Need to bring in some depth up front, like @frankie_d said.

@GordieHoweElbows, agree that Larkin needs help around him, but let's not forget the team was 8th in scoring last season despite his struggles. Would be nice to see some actual lineup changes rather than just throwing more depth at it.

Finally some momentum towards actual change, and you bring up the elephant in the room, Hank! We've been saying we need a top 6 to surround Larkin with, but now's the time for Yzerman's replacement to make some bold moves. @GordieHoweElbows made this very point!
