Two Familiar Faces Emerge to Replace Steve Yzerman

The Detroit Red Wings announced that Steve Yzerman will transition to an advisory role while the organization searches for a new head of hockey operations, with team owner Christopher Ilitch stating the team will evaluate both internal and external candidates. If Detroit promotes from within, assistant general managers Shawn Horcoff and Kris Draper are the leading internal contenders; Horcoff currently oversees the Grand Rapids Griffins and has served as one of Yzerman's top lieutenants, while Draper leads the amateur scouting department and is a former four-time Stanley Cup champion. Neither Horcoff nor Draper has previously served as an NHL general manager.
