Steve Yzerman to step down as Red Wings GM into front office advisory role
Steve Yzerman is stepping down as Detroit Red Wings GM and will transition to a senior adviser role to Governor and CEO Chris Ilitch, with the team beginning a search for a new head of hockey operations. Yzerman will remain in his current position during the transition period, which will be overseen by a search committee including Ilitch Sports & Entertainment President & CEO Ryan Gustafson. Yzerman joined the Red Wings in 2019 and had not produced a playoff berth for the team during his tenure.
