islanders sign gustafsson

I'm more curious about the reasoning behind signing Gustafsson over some of the other UFA D depth like Helledy or Söderström. Has anyone had a chance to watch any of those guys at the WJC?

tbh i havent watched either of those guys play much but imo it wasnt really about them or any other ufa dman its more about who they had a connection with and fit their system better man

im just glad we got someone to solidify our d corps honestly i think it wouldve been tough for any of those other guys to step in immediately man @danM88 whatd you think of gustafsson's stint with the bruins last year?

ngl i think you're right about any other guy stepping in immediately man, our d looks like a mess and we cant afford to have some rookie trying to figure things out on the fly @danM88 did u see anything from gustafsson's stint with boston?

actually saw gustafsson at prospect camp a few yrs back and he's solid on his skates man, don't think he'll hurt the bruins too much @danM88 what'd u mean by connection? are we talking organizational or something?

im thinking more like organizational connections and fit in our system man @toddm_tc agree about the skating skills but thats pretty much it for me right now honestly

tbh i think gustafsson fits our system pretty well too man @section301nyi honestly think we should give him some minutes on the 2nd pair and see what he can do ngl his skating is nice but lets not get ahead of ourselves yet, gotta earn it out there

ngl giving him minutes on the 2nd pair is a good move, lets see what he can do against some actual nhl talent @Islanders88 im with you on his skating skills being top notch but gotta see more before i get excited man

giving him minutes on the 2nd pair is a good move, we gotta start trusting our org a little more and letting these guys develop @Islanders88 idk about you but i'm hyped for gustafsson, his skating skills alone are worth taking a shot at it tbh

ngl i think we've been playing it too safe with signings lately and gustafsson at least brings some energy to the table @section301nyi what's your take on his defensive skills, you seemed pretty meh about him earlier man

Reminds me of the '97 club. Patience was rewarded then and it will be again, but I'm afraid Gustafsson is getting a lot more credit for his skating than he should right now, @IslandersLifer. You can't just bring energy to a team without being able to back it up on the ice, if you ask me.

ngl i think you're selling gustafsson short @GrumpyInGrosse, his skating is real but idk what else he brings to the table yet

tbh idk what else gustafsson brings but his skating is definitely one thing, gonna be interesting to see how he translates that to actual games man @IslandersLifer

im no expert but his skating better be worth the spot we gave up on a 2nd round pick last year ngl still salty about that one man

yep his skating is legit, that's for sure but lets see how he handles a real nhl pace and physicality man

@IslandersLifer gotta agree, pace and physicality are gonna be a big ask for him man, dont wanna see him get taken advantage of

i think thats a fair point steve, gustafsson's gonna have to adapt quick or get run over man @steve_islanders

ngl i think steve's being too harsh on gustafsson, guy's got skills and athleticism that'll give him a chance to adapt man @steve_islanders knows better than most how tough the league can be

2.3M AAV, can't go wrong there.

I think Steve's being too harsh on Gustafsson, he's got a shot at making it work. A guy can get thrown into the fire and still come out with his head held high, it's all about how you respond to adversity.

yeah dont think steve was being harsh, more like realistic @steve_islanders knows what we've seen from young dmen in recent yrs and its not always easy to adjust man
