Yzerman out as Red Wings general manager, executive vice president
Steve Yzerman has been removed as the Detroit Red Wings' general manager and executive vice president after holding the position since April 19, 2019, with the team announcing it will search for a replacement led by CEO Chris Ilitch. Yzerman compiled a record of 224-251-9 during his tenure, and the Red Wings never made the playoffs under his leadership, missing the postseason by seven points last season and extending their current playoff drought to 10 consecutive seasons. Yzerman will remain with the organization as senior adviser to Ilitch.
