Steve Yzerman stepped down as Detroit Red Wings general manager on July 15, transitioning to an advisory role with the team following the Red Wings' 10th consecutive playoff miss. Yzerman had served as GM since April 2019, with the team announcing it would conduct a search for a new head of hockey operations. Chris Ilitch said Yzerman would remain with the organization in his new capacity.
