The Detroit Red Wings announced that Steve Yzerman is stepping down as general manager and executive vice president, transitioning to a senior advisor role reporting to governor and CEO Chris Ilitch. Yzerman will continue overseeing day-to-day hockey operations until a replacement is named from internal and external candidates. Yzerman had served as GM since April 2019 after spending 22 years as a player and working in the Tampa Bay Lightning's front office.
