Steve Yzerman has been removed as Detroit Red Wings general manager after eight seasons without a playoff appearance, according to a team press release. Yzerman will remain with the organization in a new role as senior advisor to Governor and CEO Chris Ilitch. Owner Chris Ilitch stated in the press release that Yzerman's "lifetime of contributions to the Red Wings has meant more to this franchise than words can truly express."
