Steve Yzerman is stepping down as executive vice president and general manager of the Detroit Red Wings after seven seasons in the role. The team announced Wednesday that Yzerman will transition to a position as senior adviser to Red Wings Governor and CEO Chris Ilitch, while the organization searches for a new head of hockey operations. Yzerman will remain in his current position during the transition to oversee day-to-day hockey operations until a successor is hired.
