Smith-Pelly trying to take advantage of playoff opportunity with Capitals
Devante Smith-Pelly, a fan-favorite forward who was sent to the AHL on Feb. 21 after going 33 games without a goal, was recalled by the Washington Capitals for their playoff series against the Carolina Hurricanes and received a hero's welcome in Game 5. Smith-Pelly, who was a key contributor to the Capitals' Stanley Cup run last season, recorded a plus-1 rating with one shot on goal in 10:43 of ice time in the Capitals' 6-0 Game 5 victory that gave them a 3-2 series lead. He will continue to play in Game 6 on Monday, focusing on his physical play and forechecking after being recalled due to an upper-body injury to T.J. Oshie.
