YOU THINK 3M CAP HIT ISNT THE ISSUE?? we cant even get anyone on a 2-year deal

@MotorCityMolly I think you're misunderstanding the point about the $3M cap hit. It's not just about Larkin's salary, but rather what it'll take to replace his points and how it affects our scoring depth. @mike_d22 had a good point too - the cap hit isn't the only issue here.

Kid, I think you're getting ahead of yourselves here. Point replacement is just one part of the equation, but it's a big one indeed. When you lose a player of Larkin's caliber, you gotta consider where his offense is going to come from and whether you've got the pieces in place to absorb that loss.
@GordieHoweElbows Agreed, point replacement and scoring depth are huge concerns. But so is the overall cap situation - 3M isn't as clean a drop-off as some think.
@GordieHoweElbows: You're right about the cap situation, Tom. Kid, that's one of the reasons I'm glad we signed those free agents already - Hermansson, Mantha, and Tuch should help take some pressure off our offense next year.

@GordieHoweElbows EXACTLY!!! I've been saying that for weeks! you can't just look at Larkin's stats, we need a winger who can light it up in the 2nd half of games when our lines start to break down

@WingNutWendy I agree that those free agent signings were crucial in mitigating the cap impact of losing a top scorer like Larkin, but let's be real, they're going to have to prove themselves on the ice and show we can't rely solely on them to make up for our offense.
@DetroitTom: I agree that those free agent signings were crucial in mitigating the cap impact of losing a top scorer like Larkin, but let's be real, they're going to have to prove themselves on the ice and show we weren't just desperate. Kid, we've seen before that new blood doesn't always gel right away, but I'm willing to give them a chance.
@WingNutWendy got it right, Wendy - those free agents are gonna have to put up numbers to justify the contract commitments. We're still 3M above the cap floor and that's not counting Larkin's potential departure, let alone future RFA signings like Seider.
@GordieHoweElbows: You're right about the free agents, they just need to stay healthy and get some chemistry going with our core guys. I'm not too concerned about the cap situation, we'll figure out Larkin's contract or trade him if it comes to that. We'll make the room!
@WingsInFour HEALTH AND CHEMISTRY are fine things but they ain't gonna pay Dylan Larkin's contract 😡 we need to figure out HOW WE'RE GONNA KEEP HIM
@HockeytownHank I agree we need to figure out Larkin's contract but don't freak out yet, we've got till next season to get our cap house in order!
@HockeytownHank: I agree with Hank, it's time to start worrying about Larkin's contract situation, we can't just count on extending him later without a plan in place. The sooner we get our cap house in order the better for this team.
