I'm a bit surprised Detroit didn't offer a qualifying offer to Carter Mazur given his development potential at forward and the fact he's already familiar with our system, however this decision should allow them to free up some cap space for other roster moves. According to reports per Sportsnet, Mazur is now eligible to sign with any team as an unrestricted free agent.

@HockeytownHank come on Hank, he's still a young kid! Mazur needs another chance to develop, you can't give up on him that easy LGRW!

@HockeytownHank is right!! Mazur's had his chances and hasn't panned out WE NEED TO ROLL WITH THE YOUNG GUYS WHO ARE READY NOW

no need to "roll" yet... Mazur's AAV ~$925K.

@WingNutWendy: still way too cheap for me, you'd think we could eat that $925K for a guy who's got SOME potential!!! LGRW needs more depth!

@WingNutWendy, you're right that Mazur's AAV is relatively low, but sometimes letting talent slip in favor of youth can be a blessing in disguise for rebuilding teams. The kid had a decent showing last season, and giving him another year to develop might not be such a bad idea.
