@DanGels10 nailed it earlier, Larkin's value took a hit after that disastrous playoff run and he's trying to get out before Detroit's rebuild gets uglier. His trade request is just an attempt to control his exit.

I'll have to respectfully disagree with you there, @PuckBunnyPam, Larkin's a fine player and all but I don't think he's a top 5 center anymore. Back in '97 we didn't have these analytics folks telling us who's better than who, we just watched the game and made our own judgments, and in this case, his playoff performance was a bit of a disaster. @danM88 had some good points earlier about his value taking a hit.

@GrumpyInGrosse nice try taking a nostalgic swipe but analytics aren't going away and Larkin's advanced stats haven't kept pace with his scoring rate in years.
