Red Wings Drafted Czechia Goalie is Not a Robot
The Detroit Red Wings drafted Czech goalie Michal Orsulak in the 2026 draft (79th overall) to fill a prospect spot after trading Sebastian Cossa, with assistant general manager Kris Draper citing Orsulak's size, compete level, and athletic movement as reasons for the selection. Orsulak, 6-foot-4 and 228 pounds, posted a 28-4-4 record for Prince Albert in the WHL last season, helped lead the team to the WHL Finals, and earned a silver medal with Czechia at the World Junior Championships. The Red Wings had frequent opportunities to scout Orsulak while watching his Prince Albert teammate, defenseman Justice Christensen, whom they also signed.
