Colorado defeated Detroit 6-3 in a matinee game, with the Avalanche trailing 1-0 after the first period before taking control with a 2-1 lead early in the second period. The Red Wings scored first when Dylan Larkin capitalized on a turnover by Nikita Zadorov to set up Tyler Bertuzzi for a goal. Colorado outshot Detroit 18-12 in the opening period despite failing to convert on over six minutes of power play time.
