Derek Lalonde, a former Detroit Red Wings head coach who spent the previous season as an assistant coach with the Toronto Maple Leafs, has joined the coaching staff of the Montreal Canadiens. Lalonde was not retained by the Maple Leafs after they hired former Red Wings forward Daniel Alfredsson as part of a complete coaching staff overhaul under new general manager John Chayka.
