On This Day: Daniel Alfredsson Signs With Red Wings For Final NHL Season Of Hall-of-Fame Career
On July 1, 2013, Daniel Alfredsson signed a one-year contract with the Detroit Red Wings worth $5.5 million in cap hit after spending 17 seasons with the Ottawa Senators. The 40-year-old left Ottawa seeking a chance to win the Stanley Cup, which he had never won despite 18 years with the Senators and a 2007 Finals loss to Anaheim. In his final season with Detroit, Alfredsson recorded 49 points in 68 games as an assistant captain before retiring in November 2014, later signing a ceremonial one-day contract with Ottawa to officially retire as a Senator.
