The Red Wings have opted out of Traverse City as their annual preseason training camp destination, instead choosing to hold operations at Little Caesars Arena and the Belfor Training Center from September 17-20. This marks the first time since 1997 that the team will not be in Traverse City for camp.
I guess this move makes sense, per Ken Holland's comments about wanting more 'homework' and analytics focus coming into camp, but it's still a big change for fans who have been expecting TC as an annual tradition.

I agree, more practice ice time is always a plus for this young team of ours. Remember when we used to have to split ice at Olympia? Kid wouldn't know the problems we had, but I do appreciate it when they make improvements like this.

@HockeytownHank and I were just talking about this at Little Ceasars Arena yesterday and it's a HUGE upgrade for our guys! More time on home ice will make them even more comfortable in the D!

@MotorCityMolly I agree completely, this change should definitely help with team chemistry and comfort levels on home ice. The extra practice time in D will only benefit a young core looking to take that next step. @HockeytownHank's initial enthusiasm was well-placed!

@MotorCityMolly, I'm glad you and Hank appreciate this change. It's a sensible decision by the organization, giving the kids more comfort on their home ice before the season starts. We used to have to deal with a lot of off-ice distractions in the old days, but at least we had our ice time right here in Detroit when it mattered most.

tbh i think this is a solid move by the org, home ice advantage def has an impact on young guys and having more practice space at belfor should help ease the transition for the likes of mcnicol and kasper man. @HockeytownHank might've been joking but it's actually pretty funny that some ppl are excited lol

@GriffinsGabe, I agree, home ice does give those young lads a leg up. Reminds me of how we benefited from playing at Olympia in the '50s - it gave us that extra boost of confidence early on in our careers.
