NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman speculated that Red Wings defenseman Simon Edvinsson could potentially receive an offer sheet from the defending Stanley Cup champion Carolina Hurricanes, particularly if the Hurricanes lose RFA defenseman Alexander Nikishin. Edvinsson was tendered a qualifying offer by Detroit, retaining the Red Wings' RFA rights while keeping him eligible to receive offer sheets from other NHL teams. Friedman stated on his "32 Thoughts" podcast that Edvinsson is a "really good player" who would be "excellent" for the Hurricanes' system.
